You’re 81.That’s old age, too old to be doing squats. Dial your routine down to yoga, walking, and light calisthenics. When you say “there is something wrong”, remind yourself that such problems are normal for someone of your age. In fact, it’s very unusual for anyone to be so active at that age. Many people don’t even make it to 81. Be glad you got this far, healthy, and take it easier.

Is my boyfriend going through withdrawl?

Question by goodtogo: Is my boyfriend going through withdrawl?
My boyfriend used to be hooked on opiates. He’s been in a suboxin program for 2 years now and was almost finished when he had a motorcycle accident a month ago. He didn’t suffer any broken bones either just an exposed ankle joint. They did a skin graft. He was doing fine with the pain medicine until they began to lower it. Now he is very irritable, short fused, sweats, and gets tired out of no where. I’m starting to get worried that once they cut him completely off he is going to resort back to his old ways. I don’t know what the heck is going on!

It sounds like withdrawal, but then again it could also be because he is still in pain, poor guy. ( I recently had surgery and got all bent out of shape when they lowered my pain meds).

He is tired because he is healing. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to heal (believe me!) but then again, the sweats are definitely a withdrawal symptom.

I don’t think you have any real way of knowing until he is discharged from the hospital and has had a few weeks to heal.

He’s been through one hell of a lot between detoxing and then having that horrible accident. Please don’t nag him – he needs a lot of TLC right now – and later, if there is a problem you can help him deal with it. After all, he dealt with it once, why not again? If you really love him, don’t give him cause to push you away. He sounds like he has a basically strong personality (opiate withdrawal is very difficult and no fun at all) therefore a keeper.

Good luck to both of you.

Q&A: Relief from TMJ?

Question by horn.nicole: Relief from TMJ?
Does anyone have any suggestions for relieving the pain from TMJ? I have a nightguard thing but it doesn’t seem to help. Advil or Tylenol doesn’t get rid of the pain and headaches I get from it. It’s so bad it makes my ear hurt too! Does anyone know if treating it with Glucosamine or joint medicine would help?

Best answer:

Answer by eskie lover
Glucosamine didn’t help with my jaw pain, though I was really taking it for knee pain. The only thing I’ve found that helped was Excederine PM and wearing the night guard. I clinch my teeth at night giving myself an ear ache, but I don’t wake up with it when I take a PM at night before I go to bed.

Do my symptoms relate with hypermobility?

Question by Christina: Do my symptoms relate with hypermobility?
I am 15 years old. I have been sick for two years. I miss a lot of school with medical permission. Lupus runs in family, and rheum. thought I might have it. I have not been tested by any bloodwork except my elevated sed. rate. I was just diagnosed with hyper mobility syndrome and patellofemoral syndrome (chondromalacia patella).

My symptoms include, ofcourse, pain in joints and bones…length of arm, leg, feet, toes, hands, fingers, wrist, elbow, shoulders, everything except hips.

I have gastritis and erosion, but biopsies show nothing.

I am immune to most medicines, unknown cause.

My symptoms of illness include: fevers, frequent illness, headaches and migraines, crushing pain in chest, pain in chest, pain in ribcages with trouble moving and breathing, scoliosis, shocks in spine with make my legs collapse and I fall, shooting pains in stomach and chest to brain, fatigue, always sleeping, rashes, in sun get rashes on chest and neck. And more personal/serious ones.
Oh, I also get frequent sore throats, nose bleeds (in 2006, 1-2 per day)=anemia, nasal sores, and vomitting.

I am going back to school in a week. I was prescribed physical therapy and an anti inflamatory. I want to make sure my medicine will work (Meloxin or something?), beacuse I missed too much school on medical excuses, and I can’t do it this year. I want to know if I got the right diagnosis ? And if you have these symptoms too with HMS?

Answer by familyguy
hmmm…you sure do have a lot of conditions..
I think rather than physical therapy, which will only address soft tissue issues, chiropractor rehab may be more beneficial for you. Especially if you can find a chiropractic neurologist. They are hard to find…but I think even regular chiropractic care can be more of benefit…

Over-Active Thyroid and drug Levothyroxine?

Question by Americalovingmonkey: Over-Active Thyroid and drug Levothyroxine?
I am a 25 yr old female with two children. I gave birth about 7 1/2 months ago to my second child.
I got diagnosed with an under active then overactive thyroid after giving birth to my second child. I have been taking a drug called Levothyroxine for about 5 mo now for over active thyroid.
Since beginning this drug, I have been having severe joint pain- my hands, knees, and feet. I also feel like my muscles get tighter and sore quicker from staying in one position for a length of time.
I told my doctor about these pains and he said they were not side effects to the medicine, but has any body else experienced this while on the drug?
I wanted to have children while I was younger so I could really enjoy them, play with them a lot, but now my joints hurt so bad at times I want to cry and just curl up in a ball.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Keep on the thyroid tabs and get checked for auto immune pathology, like rheumatoid arthritis.

but realized maybe bad mixture. but didn’t take much so should it be fine?
Thanks so much for answering hope you have a great night!

Best answer:

Answer by Kathryn
You should take your Zoloft in the AM, the tylenol and cold meds are okay, as long as the cold meds don’t already have acetaminophen in them. The iron will be okay with all of those, as far as gravol i dont know. if you start feeling ill i might call the doctor.
and if youve had a cold for 2 weeks you should call the doctor in the morning and ask his advice as to why you are still sick, maybe you have a lung infection. good luck hun hope you feel better

Lupus and ANA and Anti-DNA test while taking antimalarials, help?!!?

Question by mishi408: Lupus and ANA and Anti-DNA test while taking antimalarials, help?!!?
Hi I have been suffering from extreme fatigue, joint pain, hair loss, and chest rashes, funny bl and urine test results until in the last one my ANA test came positive with 80 speckled titter. I went to see a rheumatologisst after my physician game me antimalarials and heavy antiinflamatory medicine. The rheumatologist did some tests and although the sedimentation rate came normal I am still waiting for the results of the Anti-DNA test. My question is: Does being already on antimalerials and antiinflamatories can affect the results of the tests? My organs have not been afected and I have not malar rash therfore he said I could have a subclinical lupus, what does that mean? Does it mean that I have no lupus if I have no malar rash? If it is the case why is he still treating me with antimalarials and antiinflamatories? Do they take some time to work, since some days I still wake up with more joint pain and fatigue then others? I also have been getting sick easier, is that part of it?

It sounds like the flu. Get lots of rest and fluids, and take it easy. If it doesn’t get better in a few days, then go to the doctors or to the hospital.
